Andy was born on April 5, 1955 in Alton, IL. to Peter L. Hackethal and Margery A. (Boschert) Hackethal.
Growing up in Alton, Andy enjoyed playing baseball, being involved in Indians Guides with his dad, boy
scouts, in which he earned the honor of Eagle Scout, and many family vacations to the Ozarks which
included plenty of fishing and water skiing. He attended Alton High School where he was involved in the
Commercial Arts Club and was the Art and Layout Director his senior year for the Tattler, his high school
yearbook.
In 1977, Andy earned his bachelor's degree in Art Education from Western Illinois University and worked
as a graphic design artist most of his life with various businesses including the Illinois State Police.
Andy's greatest passion was his family. In 2004, he married Juli Mechlin at the Pawnee United Methodist
Church in Pawnee, IL. Together they shared a love of family with their 4 kids, many friends, camping,
fishing, sports and music. He was a coach, referee and even a blocking partner for football. He was
anything that his kids needed. He attended many soccer, softball and football games, cross-country and
track meets, band concerts and anything else his family was involved in. Andy also shared his love of the
outdoors. He went on camping trips, trout fishing at Montauk State Park which was his favorite and
water sports such as water skiing, kayaking and canoeing.
Andy had a love for music and art. He enjoyed painting with watercolors. Some of his favorite paintings
were of his favorite memories such as his dad's sled. Since Andy was a graphic design artist, he was able
to design his daughters' wedding invitations and guest books and his son's high school graduation
announcement and first album cover. Andy learned to play guitar and piano when he was younger and
continued to play in a band with his friends during his school years and played bass in his church bands
in Pawnee and Centralia. Along with his wife and son, Andy was able to help younger musicians in the
church bands find their own passion for playing whatever instrument they chose. There were many jam
sessions at church and in his home. There was always music playing somewhere in the house from any
decade or genre.
Andy is survived by his mother Margery of Alton, IL and his wife Juli of Centralia, MO. He is also survived
by his children Erin Wuestenberg (husband Jeff) of Greeley CO, Kelli Stone (husband Paul) of Erie CO, Laci
Milner and Jeff Milner both of Centralia MO.,and his grandchildren Hannah and Emma Wuestenberg..
Also surviving are his three sisters Diana Schoenherr (husband James) of Petersburg, IL , Elaine Meyer
(husband Dale) of Ashland, IL and Margaret Williams (husband Kris)of Edwardsville, IL. along with 7
nephews and 6 nieces.
Andy was preceded in death by his father Peter and his beloved Aunt Lucy Boschert who was also his
godmother.
