Harold D. "Shorty" Fowler, 91 of Centralia, passed away Tuesday October 13, 2026, at the Harry S. Truman VA Medical Center in Columbia.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 PM Sunday October 18, 2026, at Fenton-Kendrick Funeral Home in Centralia.

A graveside service will take place in the Ollie Cemetery in Ollie, Iowa 1:30 PM, Monday October 19, 2026.

Shorty was born on November 14, 1934, in Delta, IA, the son of Arthur “Art” and Nellie (Simpkins) Fowler.

He married Effie Northup on March 13, 1955, in Fairfield, IA.

Shorty served his country in the United States Army as a Postal Clerk in Anchorage, Alaska, before making his home in Columbia. He worked for many years as a construction foreman for several construction companies, and later he worked for Mid-City Lumber in the door shop in Columbia.

He enjoyed working around his yard, building projects and spending time with his family.

Shorty is survived by his wife, Effie, daughter Teresa Craig (Frank), grandchildren, Jason Dorman (Tara), Travis Dorman; great-grandchildren, Daemon, Alexander, Kelin and Italy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Marvin Fowler (Elsie), Gerald Fowler (Veda), Dorothy Leathers (Dale), Helen and Helma Fowler.
