Joe was the first son of Katherine Marie (Larman) and Bruno Stephen Castrop.  They preceded him in death.  Joseph was born on October 15, 1942, in Boonville.  He married the love of his life Glenda Faye (Bates) the daughter of Frances and Glen W. Bates, Sr. April 4, 1964.  She survives him.  He is survived by four children:  three girls Theresa Diane Wells (Jerry) of Fulton, Missouri, Sandra Sue Herring (Pete) of Hallsville, Missouri, Josephine Rena Scott (Michael) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and one son Joseph Bruno Castrop of Olathe, Kansas.  He has three grandchildren Ethan Wells (Fallon), Emily Carlson (Brian) and Joshua Herring.  He has one great grandson Benjamin Carlson.  He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and of his great grandson.  He is also survived by a sister Rose Marie Akins (Jim), Hallsville, Missouri and a brother, Tony Castrop (Debbie), Hallsville, Missouri.

Joe was five years old when his family moved from Glasgow to Hallsville where he resided until his death.  He went to Hallsville School until 1961 when he joined the Army.  He was drafted in the Army on July 25, 1961.  He was sent to Fort Leonard Wood for 4 weeks where he completed his basic training.  He was then shipped to Fort Riley Kansas where he became a member of the Big Red One.  He was assigned to the artillery unit with the intent of being shipped to Berlin.  Talks had been successful, so his unit was not sent to Berlin.  In 1963, his unit was put on a train to be shipped to Cuba for the Bay of Pigs, however President Kennedy was able to resolve the issue and they were not sent.  In 1963, he became a driver for the General of his unit.  He was to ship overseas to Germany with the General but after coming home for two weeks on leave and meeting the love of his life, Glenda Bates, he decided not to go on that tour and became a reservist.  He was in the reserves for the next two years and on standby for the following two years.  During his time in the reserves, he completed training at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin and finished the rest of his reserve time at the Reserve Center in Columbia, Missouri.  He was honorably discharged June 25, 1967.

Joe was a member of the Boone County Fire Protection District for 20 years.  He was a founding member of the Screaming Eagles Case Club.  He was also a founding member of Missouri IH Club. He was also on the Board of All Saints Cemetery in Glasgow.

Joe was a mechanic in Hallsville and owned his own shop and wrecker service, he also delivered Uregas, for ten years.   He later went to work for Boone County Road and Bridge where he retired in 2004.  He loved all things international.  He collected international antique tractors, and he loved international scouts.  He also loved trains, especially steam trains and had several model trains.  Throughout his life he made many friends.

Memorial donations are suggested to the All Saints Cemetery and may be sent in care of Fenton-Kendrick Funeral Home, 104 S. Collier St. Centralia, MO 65240.
