On April 9, 1960, Sue married Edward Barnes in Mexico and he preceded her in death on March 30, 2018. They created a beautiful life together for 58 years, living most of those years on their family farm in Thompson before moving to Centralia upon retirement.

Sue fondly talked of working at the radio station in Mexico as her first job. She then spent several years as a friendly face at both the Audrain County Collectors Office and Assessors Office. Her employment path then brought her to Hubble beginning in 1981 until retirement in 2001 after 20 years. She also took pride in being a volunteer at the voting polls as well as at Audrain Medical Center.
Sue was an exceptionally talented cook, and seamstress. She enjoyed working in the garden, playing cards, and dominos. Her greatest joy was her family; she truly loved and cherished her time spent with them. Sue always had a smile on her face.
Sue was a longtime member of the Liberty Christian Church in Thompson.
